June 30th. I have been keeping that date in mind for weeks. The date that Ernie Willis was to be sentenced. And now, it appears, we’ll need to wait even longer.
For those not familiar with Ernie Willis, let me fill you in a bit.
Ernie Willis is a 52 year-old man who was recently convicted of raping and impregnating Tina Anderson, when she was only 15 years old. At the time, he was 38, and she babysat for his children. He raped her twice, and when she discovered she was pregnant, she was forced to stand in front of her church congregation at Trinity Baptist Church and apologize for getting pregnant. Ernie’s “infidelity” was mentioned as well, but the two “apologies” were not linked at that time and only a select few knew that Tina had been raped by Ernie.
Tina was then sent to live in Colorado with a family she had never met and was forced to give her baby up for adoption.
Fourteen years later, justice was done as Tina Anderson’s rapist was convicted of three counts of forcible rape and a count of felonious sexual assault, according to ABC News.
But now, according to the Concord Monitor, sentencing will be sometime in July.
What is your reaction to this delay of sentencing?
