Would you believe it, but Ernie Willis wants a new trial. Yup, that’s right. According to WMUR,
“Lawyers for Ernest Willis, 52, said the tape recording was prejudicial and contained several comments where police expressed skepticism toward Willis’ version of events. They said it also contained references to hearsay from a person who did not testify at trial.”
You can read more here.
Of course, this does not guarantee him a new trial, but it shows that here is a man who claims to be a Christian, specifically a Fundamentalist, and he is allowing his lawyers to request a new trial.
Is he hoping for a lesser punishment? After all, he is scheduled to be sentenced June 30.
Or does he just not care about the ramifications of this decision? It could mean that witnesses may be called to testify again. But, then again, we are talking about Ernie Willis, the man who twice raped an innocent 15-year old girl.
I’ll let you know more as soon as I do.
What do you think? Do you think this request will actually result in a new trial?
